A Level Life

Savannah James, Graduate Art Therapy Intern

Hi, I’m Savannah!

I’m a graduate intern currently pursuing my master’s degree in art therapy counseling at Emporia State University. I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, and I’m more than a year into my graduate training. I’m passionate about healing through creativity and helping people explore self-expression and personal growth through art.

My therapeutic approach is grounded in Person-Centered, Jungian, and Existential theories, with a strong emphasis on each person’s strengths and ability to choose their own path. I tailor each session to meet your unique needs and goals, using a variety of creative and evidence-based modalities.

I also have a strong background in community art engagement. I’ve coordinated family-focused art events through Emporia State University’s Student Art Therapy Organization (SATO), served as Vice President of the Art Club at USAO, and founded “The Yarn Lovers’ Society,” a fiber arts initiative that fostered creative connection among students and the broader community. I’ve also been an active volunteer with the Chickasha Area Arts Council, contributing to city-wide events like the Rock Island Arts Festival.

As an artist, I work in a variety of media—textiles, sculpture, painting, drawing, and creative writing. I’ve exhibited my work in galleries across Oklahoma, including the Paseo Arts and Creativity Center in Oklahoma City, and I’ve published academic writing in The Drover Review (Volumes 3 and 6).

I’m especially passionate about working with children, adolescents, and neurodivergent individuals—including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD. I believe in the power of the creative process as a tool for insight, emotional regulation, and transformation.

I'm currently accepting new self-pay clients for just $30 per session, and I would be honored to walk alongside you on your healing journey.
